Christian Fields

This is a scruffy little nature reserve just off Eastern Avenue, the by-pass round Lichfield. It’s in a fairly rough area (for Lichfield) and attempts to develop a pretty pool and picnic area resulted in an increase in the number of dumped shopping trolleys and bottles.

Now even the council have left it alone, it’s relatively unspoilt.

It has a strange atmosphere though, and I’ve left the area hastily on more than one occasion. (Once was a bizarre photo shoot I stumbled on, and another some dodgy blokes with toy cars flying all over the place.)

It has a disputed history. One story suggests that it was the site of a massacre of many Christians - hence the name. (Robert Plot’s book about Staffordshire.)

Anyway, it’s on my way home from Lidl and the Curborough Garden Centre, so I called in to stretch my legs.

Edit : when the Council we’re trying to make it attractive, their developments were spoiled and litter was dumped. Those responsible seem to have lost interest and there’s nowhere near as much litter. A couple of benches and one carving have survived. It’s actually back to nature ……
