Demolish the Library? What next, book burning?

Redilady and I took ourselves to a protest yesterday.
Our crazy council has a money squandering scheme to demolish the purpose built ( as part of the "New Town") Public  Library,  to create an openspace  and make the town centre more attractive. Except that leaked details suggest that the building will be replaced by  flats and fast food outlets.
