Panshanger Park
We were up early so decided to head for Panshanger Park. The car park is small and now charges a fee but we managed to find a space and didn’t mind paying. Lots of people and dogs were out early but we avoided most of them and headed for the Great Oak Tree which was around during the time of Elizabeth I and is the largest ‘maiden’ or clear stemmed oak in the country. We walked on to the remains of The Orangery which was built in the late 1800s. The whole estate covers about 1000 acres and has vast lakes, different varieties of wildlife and longhorn cattle. Extras show the tree and a view of one of the lakes.
