Up Pompeii
Life And Death, Pompeii And Heculaneum at the British Museum is worth going to for these original wall murals alone, reclaimed from an ancient townhouse recreated here. There are also several stunning and quite heartbreaking casts taken from the hollow spaces left by the poor souls who got buried under the ash and lava two thousand years ago. Some were burned to cinders trying to escape the lava down by the sea - but the rescue fleet (first responders in today's terminology) couldn't fight their way through the volcanic debris.
What's amazing though and comes across big time is how they lived and loved, with zest and a closer feel for nature than most of us do today. They loved to party!
A lesson from the past.
