The thin blue line.....

Must be Monday. Not the best of starts to the week. Two cows that had calved during the night to be brought in. One with a dead calf, one with a nearly dead one with hyperthermia. And one of the cows decided to take the scenic route over a fence into a wood then over another fence out the wood and through some paling railing.
Skinned the dead calf and twinned on one of the bottle fed calves. It was quite happy tucking in to ad lib milk from its new mum.
The chilled calf didn't look great, but gave it some glucose into its stomach, filled lots of plastic milk cartons with hot water to make hot water bottles and covered it up with an old horse blanket and straw.
It lasted until lunch time before giving up the ghost,so will try and twin on the other bottle fed calf in the morning.
An afternoon of cattle work next door. The bullocks we brought in a couple of Sundays ago got their pneumonia vaccine,a strip clipped along their back to help stop them sweating in the shed ,and a dose of pour on wormer along their back too. This make is blue to help you see where it has been applied .
