The Flashes
A series of small natural lakes in our village that provides a habitat for birds and other wildlife.

Money Talks
Just off Main Street
on the way out of the village
there’s a gap in the wall
that will take you through
deciduous woodland
to the Flashes,
a series of small lakes
that almost dry up
in drought conditions.
When they flood though,
you will see ‘twitchers’
leaning on the ancient
dry stone walls
with binoculars and cameras.
Oyster Catchers, Canada Geese,
Wigeons, a variety of waterfowl
and many migratory birds
can be watched from a distance,
in tranquillity.
Then the developers moved in
with plans to build a holiday park.
Diggers, earth movers, destroyers,
greedy business men
without a care for wildlife
scared all the birds away.
Now all is at a standstill
while those with power
argue the toss.
Slowly, nature is taking back
what belongs to it,
but we all know -
Money talks.
My friend Angie came round this afternoon, she is in our local refugee group and in the past has helped lots of refugees from Syria, Afghanistan and now from Ukraine. She is our go to person if we need advice on anything. We had a lovely long chat for at least 2 hours. She is a really lovely lady and helping us to find out how to help Tonya and Yurii to move on with their lives. We only have them here till about March/April and they will need to find a place to rent and jobs.
I had a chilled out day today as the cleaning was done over the last couple of days.
That’s all for today.
Goodnight :-) X
