Crawley
I made one of my rare visits to Crawley today - partly to shop at M&S, and partly to take stock once again of the atmosphere of this first-generation 'New Town' of the post-WWII era.
I was favourably impressed: it seemed still to embody the progressive ideals of the era in which it was conceived: to me it appeared clean, well-maintained, socially and ethnically diverse and generally a 'liveable' sort of place.
The sculpture on the wall of what is now a Wilko store epitomises the spirit of the age.
