Struggling On
This horrible cold is still beating us both up.
Potting most of today. We will be slightly short on 1 Ltr pots for this batch of perennials until our delivery arrives from Germany next week.I spoke to Paul our Teku rep and he was up at the Clyde Valley growers show. This used to be a fairly large commercial show over a few days. Now it is just on for the day and he said only two nurseries had turned up.
This is a reflection of Commercial Horticulture in the UK.Over 30% of the Lea Valley growers have closed down this year.We only hear of the large nurseries going because they make the news but so many small nurseries are quietly calling it a day.Six nurseries in our area have gone.Just today I heard that a 20 acre tomato and a 10 acre cucumber nursery had closed no longer viable due to the cost of fuel and a lack of quality labour since we left Europe.
Horticulture is nothing like farming. We receive no subsides nor should we.One of the problems the industry has is that there is no defined route into the industry.
Anyway. In the pic is the last of our barn door remote controls that is still working.I must order some new ones.
Still behind with Blip.
Very warm and sunny day.
