Colour on a Grey Day

This odd structure on a wild rose branch, a rose bedeguar gall, has been caused by a tiny gall wasp. It was one of the most colourful and unusual things I saw today, when P and I went for a quick walk at lunchtime. We almost made it back home before it started to rain.

Last night I heard the unmistakable calls of migrating cranes, but they didn’t show up again in daylight.

As I opened a newspaper website after work, I read of Liz Truss’ resignation. Although it didn’t come as much of a surprise after the recent developments, it makes me wonder (not for the first time), how this increasingly chaotic game of Tory musical chairs is going to end, and how it will affect the lives of our friends in the UK.
