There have been a couple of times in my life when I have been suddenly drenched from head to toe with precious little warning. The first and most hilarious was in Bako National Park on the north coast of Borneo in Sarawak on 24th December 1999 and the second, less funny, was when a sudden gust of wind put me and my bicycle into a muddy puddle large enough to accommodate both of us entirely on my way in to work more or less four years ago.
When I used to manage a gorgeous little Greek cottage for tourists, there was a guest who brought with her some wonderful beach shoes. She chose to leave them behind for the benefit of others when she left.
I found them incredibly useful while I was there and brought them with me when I returned to UK. The weather this morning was so utterly horrible (thunder, lightning and spectacularly torrential rain) that I had the wit to pack my dry shoes and socks into my bicycle panniers and ride to work wearing only these swim shoes. I'm so glad I did that! I finished the day home and dry – in stark contrast to our “work-experience” Prime Minister.
