No single photo could clearly show it, but we have three layers of tiles on top of wallpaper which is on top of a fourth layer of tiles up to waist height, which would seem to be original. On the north wall, all three layers come off quite easily, unpleasantly so on the plaster near the ceiling, which can't have been doing as much to hold the tiles on as the cupboards which were in front of them until earlier this week. Elsewhere, two of the three upper tile sheets were less inclined to move.
