Quehanna in Spring

Location: The Valley of the Elk, Quehanna Wild Area, central Pennsylvania, U.S.A.

Scene: Same place as yesterday, but facing the opposite direction. The sandbar is the same one. And I forgot to mention: there are hoof prints on that sandbar. Deer or elk, no doubt. The tree on the left? You've seen its reflection before.

The occasion: May backpack trip, day 2. Up on the hill to the left is a big rock where I like to sit at dawn and watch the mist rise off the stream as the light fills up this valley. (As I did on this particular morning.)

The weather: Delectable, like the best childhood days you remember and dream of but hardly ever get. Sunny and warm but with a lovely breeze.
