Poorly Mum
I’ve had 2 long visits to the hospital today. I’m up at my mums bedside as I write this.
In the morning Mum had been moved to an admissions unit . I met her consultant ( a kindly Dr ) who explained Mum has pneumonia and hypoactive delirium.
Mum is on IV antibiotics, fluids and oxygen. It’s very upsetting to see mum like this. I cried my eyes out in the afternoon when I went home for a sleep.
When I came back in the evening mum must have been hypoxic as she was very agitated , trying to climb out of the bed , not making any sense. The nurses sorted her , putting up her oxygen and back onto a face mask rather than nasal cannula. This helped to calm her down. The night nurse looking after mum seems approachable , attentive, calm and kind. All qualities ideal for a nurse.
My partner still has Covid and is isolating at his parents 160 miles away. Thankfully with the power of FaceTime we can chat throughout the day. Even my mum has managed to say a few words to him. They are really very fond of each other. They have both been keen readers , and used to talk about books they were reading and swap books.
I am trying to stay strong for Mum and will stay with her as long as I can tonight.
