Monarch Surprise

Earlier today we were astonished to find a monarch butterfly caterpillar out and feeding on one of our milkweed plants. 
Although we still have a few swallowtail caterpillars out and about and have several swallowtails in chrysalis, we considered monarch season to be over. 
If this one makes it to, and through, the chrysalis phase, it could be a super migrator that will fly south headed for Mexico.
