Winkworth

On a scorching bank holiday Winkworth Aboretum near Godalming was very busy and we were lucky to find a car park space. Quite often when we've been before there have been just two or three cars in the car park but that wasn't at bluebell time!

The bluebells stretched as far as the eye could see under coppiced hazel and larch. Interspersed were various blossom trees and magnolias giving a sudden contrast to the bluebells. We walked for more than an hour, down to the lake and took the long climb back up through the azaleas which were just in bud. We'll have to come back in two or three weeks' time.

After all this effort we had a pub lunch to celebrate Normous' birthday. Everywhere was very busy, everyone out enjoying a brilliant day.
