Falcon at Falkland
Taking advantage of our new life as a retired couple and joint car owners, today Mr hazelh and I enjoyed an outing to the Kingdom of Fife. We selected Falkland as our destination. This was largely because I knew that Falkland Palace was a Stuart hunting lodge and I thought that a visit there might add to our knowledge of James IV (i.e that recently acquired at the theatre).
We really enjoyed our time in the Palace, not least because there were few tourists on site and, in the main, we had the guides to ourselves in each room that we visited. There was also a falconer on duty. We chatted to him for a while and his falcon posed nicely for my blip.
Some of the other tourists in the town today seemed very interested in the Bruce Fountain on the High Street. From Campbells café we watched several taking a very particular pose next to the fountain for photographs. We soon realised that they were fans of the Outlander series, sections of which were filmed in Falkland. We guessed that one of the main characters from the story holds this pose in one of the episodes.
After lunch, Mr hazelh and I took a three mile walk around the Mapsie Den. We kept our eyes out for red squirrels in the trees and spotted one. However, my favourite part of the walk was the Yad waterfall. I have included a shot of Mr hazelh underneath it in the extra.
We joined the National Trust for Scotland when we were in Falkland Palace so we're now set up for other fun day trips like this over the next 12 months.
Exercise today: walking (14,125 steps).
