South Africa Again

A brief mooch in the greenhouse before work.  Morning sunshine lighting up the flowers of Lachenalia longituba, a little bulbous plant. which comes from the Roggeveld, one of the coldest regions in the winter rainfall area of South Africa.  I raised these from seed sown late 2019, they flowered for the first time last year.   The leaves tower  a few inches above the little flowers which remain almost at ground level.

A very busy day at Aber Cafe, half term for many areas of England.  Just two of us on duty, it was a bit of a merry-go-round at times as we covered the three work-stations - till, tea/coffee/cake counter and kitchen.  I think we kept everyone happy and I found time to talk to a family with a prospective young volunteer, a lad of fourteen.   He's too young to be a railway volunteer (16 now the legal age) but we run a training program for 14 and 15 year-olds ... and he's very keen!   It helped having a couple of recent graduates on the premises today :-)

After work a walk for Meg before C brought hot food round for Jamie and I, a very kind gesture indeed.  AND there was chocolate cake for afters!
