Millau Viaduct
I have arrived at the Millau Viaduct. It is awesome!! I left this morning at 6.00am and drove just over 450 miles and arrived at lunchtime.
You have to see this spectacular piece of architecture and engineering to truly appreciate its majesty. I have probably fallen between two stools with this blip as I have attempted to show the viaduct and some interesting local countryside. More blips needed really.
What this blip does not show is the beautiful curvature of the structure.
If you view this blip large, which is MANDATORY, you will see the shepherd looking after her flock with her dog just to the back of it, sitting in the long grass wearing a hat. Tonight, I hope to catch the sunset, and tomorrow or Wednesday, some more exploration for different views.
I really hope you enjoy viewing this blip. If I have time, I will begin to reply to comments which are hugely appreciated, thank you.
Some Info:
Designed by the French structural engineer Michel Virlogeux and British architect Norman Foster, it is the tallest bridge in the world with one mast's summit at 343.0 metres (1,125 ft) above the base of the structure. It is the 12th highest bridge deck in the world, being 270 metres (890 ft) between the road deck and the ground below. Millau Viaduct is part of the A75-A71 autoroute axis from Paris to Montpellier. Construction cost was approximately ?400 million. It was formally inaugurated on 14 December 2004, and opened to traffic on the 16th. The bridge has been consistently ranked as one of the great engineering achievements of all time. The bridge received the 2006 International Association for Bridge and Structural Engineering Outstanding Structure Award.
