Every Picture Tells .....

Oakworth

THURSDAY

If you count Sunday's photo, then this is my third train blip of the week.

The main shot and extra were taken at Oakworth Station on the Keighley and Worth Valley heritage line.

The steam locomotive No 85 is approaching Oakworth from Keighley. The loco was originally built for the Taff Vale Railway, and sold by the Great Western Railway into colliery service in the North East before entering preservation by the KWVR in 1970.

The diesel multiple unit (see extra) is approaching Oakworth from Oxenhope. DMU Class 101s were first introduced in 1956 and the last ones were not withdrawn until 2003, 47 years after introduction. Found almost everywhere, the use of the class was notably concentrated on services in the east of Scotland, West Midlands, North East and West Yorkshire.

I had lunch in the buffet car at Oxenhope Station and stopped off at Hebden Bridge on the way home.

I had only just stepped through the door when I got a call from the Ocado driver asking if he could deliver the shopping three hours early as he was in the area. No problem.

I'm now tempted to visit the East Lancs Railway tomorrow.
