Garden Visitor

I had wondered about how quickly bird food disappears from our feeder. Today, when I was at work, P came to my office and said, “There’s a parrot in our garden.”

We had seen feral rose-ringed parakeets in the area before (they have established stable populations all along the Rhine) but never in our own garden.

When I went downstairs to get my camera, two of them acrobatically balanced on the bird feeder (which is only slightly bigger than one of these birds) and raided it. They flew away when they spotted me, but one stayed in a neighbour’s tree long enough for me to get a blip.
