Aquamarine/Nanna K's Day

USCGC Alex Haley

Unexpectedly warmish and dry for our walk today…haven’t blipped a boat at Lake Union Dry Dock for awhile and I thought this 283 ft. Coast Guard Cutter was looking especially fine today.  ( It’s possible I’ve blipped it before…but I couldn’t find it) )     It used to be a Navy Vessel recommissioned for Coast Guard Duty in 1999 and is nicknamed “ the bulldog of the Bering” being home ported in Kodiak, Alaska.   Yes, it’s the Alex Haley  writer/journalist who wrote “Roots”.  He enlisted in the CG in May 1939 and while serving in the Pacific in WWll he taught himself the art of letter writing  and story telling.  The other sailors paid him to write their love letters.   He was the first “chief journalist”  ..He retired in 1959 after also serving in the Korean war.    More here if you are interested.
Blipper friend Mike coming for drinks and soup in a short while….
Extra is a mini tour in the street end park at the end of our street... they come on a bus..this tour guide was very enthusiastic.
