Daphne
The premier genus of alpine shrubs, due perhaps to their wonderful scent .... if only I could send you a whiff!
Daphne arbuscula pictured is a slow growing dwarf shrub, ideal for a trough, as here where it has made all of three inches high by eight inches across in three years. This one being grown from a small cutting on it's own roots, this being a genus where nursery grown plants are often grafted onto a different species with a stronger growing root stock. Daphnes are members of the thyme family, this one is found growing wild in the Czech Republic and Slovakia.
