The accidental finding

Cloud over Cambrians

A drive over the Cambrian mountains to Machynlleth gave us a complete whiteout, followed by a descent into a quilt of autumn colours draped over grey-green.hills and whitewashed farmsteads.

In Mac we visited MOMA (the Machynlleth branch) where we saw a great many large, bright works of art, including Welsh woven rugs by Vicky Ellis. I've put a shot of one of the gallery rooms in Extras. The rugs by Vicky are a woven response to the large paintings. I could have stayed a lot longer, but  instead I bought a photographic print by Terence someone, which I will blip another day.

When we visited H's friend in the  framing shop, we got some advice on framing my new print, and then hit the charity shops. By this time, I had to be very restrained, and only bought a book, though I got very excited in Dyfi Wholefoods and may have bought far too many attractively packaged foods, for example chocolate bars with pictures of foxgloves on them, to give as presents

Lunch at a Vegan Cafe, Ty Medi, was spectacular. H had a gourmet wrap with roasted vegetables, and I had a nut burger with vegan mayo and various salads. Then I think we toured some more shops before returning to the car. We took a different route back, but had already seen a couple of police cars heading up the same road at high speed. This alarmed us, and we soon came across a very nasty crash scene by a hairpin bend. Luckily those involved were standing up, but the cars were  wrecked: it looked like a head-on collision.

H wanted to check out the reservoir on the way home. We found it looking green and shrunken, with hardly any water except at the end near the dam. For anyone who still doesn't believe in climate change, I'd invite them to visit  to a dry reservoir or the scene of a failed harvest.

When we got back I was completely floppy, despite the fact that we'd hardly walked at all today.  I had to go and have a lie down! On rising a while later, I helped make dinner with a few things we'd bought in town, and some leftovers. We also made a surprisingly flavour-filled dessert out of frozen bananas, oat milk, maple syrup and walnuts. That's one to make again at home (Clean Steve, you have been warned).

An evening of watching wildlife programmes followed. I also managed to finish my book, French Braid by Anne Tyler, which I enjoyed but not as much as some of her others. Tonight's my last night here. I shall miss the sound of silence, and the rushing river  Tomorrow we hope to sneak in an early-ish Beech wood walk before the rain sets in.
