Abstract Reflections At Greenfield Lake

We took a walk around my favorite old city park in Wilmington this morning. There are always flowers of some kind in bloom.  It's really been a nice surprise to find some fall color too this year.  Didn't really see any last year, but then we were at the beach most of the time last year being so fascinated with being close. The trees here are old and some really majestic. The trees are Bald Cypress, deciduous conifers native to the southern United States and they have what looks like a root system above water. Here's some interesting info about them:

"The function of cypress knees has long intrigued botanists. In 1819, François Andre Michaux wrote, “No cause can be assigned for their existence,” and in 1882 Asa Gray concurred. Nevertheless, throughout the nineteenth century and continuing to the present, botanists have put forth hypotheses about the function of these peculiar formations, hypotheses that have included aeration of the root system, vegetative reproduction, mechanical support, nutrient accumulation, and carbohydrate storage. The aeration theory has been the most popular and, indeed, is presented without question in some botany texts, but in fact, no explanation has been generally accepted. We did take Myles and since his latest treatments of acupuncture, laser and human grade food - he is eager and willing to walk anywhere we can take him at a slow but steady pace.

Celtics on this evening - go C's and after a couple of heartbreaking losses (heartbreaking for me anyway), hoping for a W tonight.
