Graveyard

In the Gold Rush Cemetery one may find this reminder on the grave of Ms Carolina Hilly, born in Germany and died in Skagway aged 52. These people lived in an age of pain and suffering, mostly without any hope of remedy or relief. Death came quickly and unexpectedly from disease and natural and man made danger around Skagway. The plots of infants and graybeards lie side by side, families and men far from home. Simple graves mostly, many say a name and a date and a few just "unknown". A few say more, and tell of locations, reputations, and honors. This one speaks however of hope: that death might be the a gateway to eternal life free of the woe of this one. May we all find it.
