Barters
Woke early to catch the sunrise again. It was a clear sky so merely a golden glow not pink-suffused like yesterday. Still beautiful.
Today we headed to Alnwick to Barters, renowned secondhand bookshop housed in the old railway station - blip. It's an incredible place. I think the repurposing of the station while maintaining features of the buffet, stylish loos, and making good use of the roof is pure genius. Sadly I was abstemious, not wanting to add to the piles of books at home. The castle was closed for this year. Alnwick town though pretty appeared quiet. We couldn't find a cafe that was open.
We decided to visit Seahouses where we'd spent past holidays. We bought savoury pastries and coffee from Trotters Family Bakery and sat on the wall in the harbour to eat.
Couldn't resist walking the path looking over the beach with Bamburgh Castle caught the
light. We'd walked the path with Murray and taken him on the beach where he ran like the loony hound he was. The Farne island lighthouse glinted in the sun where we'd taken a boat trip with friends from York to see the island and the seals. Good memories.
We drove through Bamburgh on our way back to Spittal vowing we'd return one afternoon and have a proper look.
Back at the holiday cottage looked at our photos of the day. OH went to attempt 40 winks. I had a last walk on the beach for the day.
I've walked a lot today. My phone app tells me I've achieved 12, 786 steps. No wonder the knees are creaking.
Pleasant evening everyone.
