Samhain
Samhain (pronounced "sah-win") marks the first day of winter in the Celtic calendar. It means "summer's end". These fallen leaves from the Dutchmen's Pipe vine by the potting shed are quite beautiful in their decay I thought. John will be here this morning to continue the outdoor "summer's end" chores. We seem to be a bit late this year. I will put on my hunter's orange jacket too as the dreaded deer hunting season has started. It is All Saints Day and the first day of Día de los Muertos, the Mexican Day of the Dead. It seems we are surrounded by death at this time of year.
