Wednesday: Taking A Battering

The day itself was pretty odd as we all waited for the hurricane to descend on us.  Our security guards left early this morning, the gate house was shuttered up, and I then locked us in the compound with chains and padlocks on the gate.  And then we waited.

Things got increasingly still, hot and sticky.  By 5pm the wind was picking up significantly and by 7pm we were in the thick of it.  The sounds were quite something as we could hear trees splintering, doors rattling etc.  The power kept flickering on and off but we have a generator so we never completely lost it.

We entertained ourselves and our guests by cracking open some drinks and playing Jenga.  K. has been looking after everyone beautifully which hasn’t been easy as, between them, they have food need, ranging from allergies to vegan. We’d feel a bit more kindly about that if they weren’t, in essence, strangers.  But we’ve managed fine and have kept each other entertained.

This was taken just before the storm reached its peak.  I wanted to show the trees bending but, in every photo I took, they just looked quite normal…….
