Society
Today's walk followed coffee at Craigie's Farm and a wee drive down to Society.
After starting along the shore we joined the main track then turned south, then west, along the National Cycle Route 76, which is also part of the John Muir Way, all of which sounds very noble but in fact passes through the estate of Hopetoun House. You can just see the balustrade and the towers on the wings of the house beyond the field of sheep (I think these may be Hebridean).
This route passes through the deer park, the only evidence of this being a few hoofprints of roe deer, with a fleeting view of the walled garden.
At Byreloan cottage, at a staff entrance to the house, we turned back, taking the main drive back and out through the wrought iron gates.
Wondering why the gates were held back with large ratchet straps, we realised that, at some point, an accident had occurred, ripping the top fixings from the gateposts on both sides and bending part of the gates' frame. Puzzling how this could have been achieved will keep us occupied for some time but at present blame a large, wide vehicle trying, and failing, to pass through open gates... .
Back at the car it was away for the weekly shop and pootle home.
