Last kayak of the season?
Friday
Another gorgeous day today, topping out at about 74F (about 24C). We thought we had put our kayaks away for the season, but today we put the kayak racks back on the roof of the car, lowered the kayaks down from the garage ceiling, where they are stored on a kind of pulley system, loaded them onto the car, and off we went to Stonelick Lake for one more paddle. The last time we were there was mid September, when everything was still green, so things were very different today, with most of the leaves now off the trees, except for oaks and beeches. Although it was a beautiful sunny day, there was quite a breeze at times, making the water a bit “sloppy”, and meaning we had to work a bit harder at times! Two women had just returned from their kayak, but apart from them we only saw one other kayaker, and two guys in a fishing boat, so it was a lovely peaceful paddle.
This evening we were out again, this time at the Cincinnati Ballet’s performance of Carmina Burana. I love the music, but I had never seen it performed as a ballet before, so it featured the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, the May Festival chorus, who were seated on a raised platform toward the back of the stage, three vocal soloists and the Cincinnati Ballet. The staging and lighting was very effective and dramatic, and the performance was spectacular. We are so blessed by, and thankful for the wide variety of high quality music, and arts in general we enjoy in the Cincinnati area.
