Station Start - Workington

A very uninteresting grey day travelling by train from Workington to the Britannia Airport Hotel in Manchester, prior to flying out to Croatia on holiday with my cousin Anita. There was some stress due to fear of a sudden rail strike, but these are not scheduled until tomorrow.
One bright moment -I didn’t know until today that the station at Workington has a community group that does the plant pots, runs exhibitions and keeps up with the paintwork. They had made a small film about the Bessemer iron smelting industry in the town and how this had supplied rail track all over the world. It appears that track is stamp marked and so you can tell if you are running on Workington rails wherever you are on your travels. Not sure if leaning out of a window on a high speed train is the correct collectors technique.
The object of the day was fulfilled in that both Anita and I arrived at the Hotel in the evening, packed and ready to catch the taxi at 07.20 the next morning.
