El Retiro
Long, warm and sunny day. Finally!
Started at the church where Goya is buried and where he painted the frescoes. Art without the art gallery queues! Found the start of the cable car and rode it over to Casa de Campo. Will had a good play on the park there, then we rode it back again. We walked from there to the Egyptian temple of Debod which had had its surrounding water drained so doesn't look as impressive as it does in pictures. Then I got a text message to say our flight home tomorrow had been cancelled but someone would be in contact within two hours. Sigh. So we continued our walk through Madrid, grabbed some more churros and then when I hadn't heard anything we headed back to the hotel to sort out getting home.
In a nutshell Iberia weren't interested in helping us because we bought the tickets through BA. BA however, were amazing. Gave me a choice of flights and times, held two options for 15mins while I discussed it with Will and made a decision.
So flights sorted we headed out for an evening walk in El Retiro. This was,, according to Will, one of the best bits of our time away. A wander round a park, exploring different paths, in the warm, evening sunshine.
