CHURCH CLOCK

This magnificent clock is attached to the church of St Martin le Grand on Coney Street in the City of York.

The church has had a double-sided clock since the 17th Century and this one was designed in the 1850s. Restored in 2012, by the Cumbria Clock Company at Penrith, the clock will now strike the hours and chime every quarter for the first time since 1942.

The clock features a gilded head of Father Time and a revolving Little Admiral on top, taking a sighting of the sun with his sextant.
