The school over the road had a firework display this evening. I was made aware of it from a series of explosions sounding through the windows. I grabbed the nearest camera and played around with settings, trying effects and abstracts through an upstairs window.

Guy Fawkes Night is of course officially meant to celebrate the failure of the Gunpowder Plot led by Guy Fawkes in an unsuccessful attempt to blow up the Houses of Parliament and assassinate King James I, but I think we know what we are really celebrating...

It's surprising now to hear how stripped back this whole album is, especially considering the producer of the album is Phil Spector. I've been playing through the six CDs in the 2020-remixed box set of this album John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band and have so far studied the first three. There are new remixes, out-takes, elements mixes, raw studio mixes, evolution mixes and even demos of all the songs on the album. John Lennon's intense and often intimate vocals are amongst his best and have brought out the best in the superstar rhythm section. Apart from Phil Spector and Billy Preston adding piano to one track each there are no guest musicians unless you count Yoko Ono, present throughout, and credited with "wind". She also produced the songWorking Class Hero. Fifty-two years old now the album stands up really well.
