I discovered that the Halide camera app for iPhone allows one to shoot 48 pm jpeg/heic, not just proRAW. So I had a play with that. It wouldn’t be a good option in low light - where the quad pixels/pixel binning thing would give better resolution and noise - but in good light, it is wonderful.

I also think the iPhone main camera at least is starting to develop some actual proper character, which is a surprise - a pleasant and welcome one.
