What a CRAZY day!
Noticed a few cars outside home this morning and thought there must have been a ding along the way a bit. A short while late I noticed the cars were still there.......but not moving. I wandered out to the gate to survey things and was blown away to see cars as far as the eye could see in both directions nose-to-tail and virtually stationary. In their wisdom, Waka Kotahi (the national roading department) had closed State Highway 6 (the main road by-passing my suburb) forcing traffic to seek 'alternative' routes. The issue was compounded by a different set of roadworks closing access to one of the (southbound) alternatives. Apparently there had been road signs warning people of the closure along the main road last week - great if you routinely drive that way, but useless communication if you don't. Not a skerrick of this info was shared directly with local residents and so we were effectively grid-locked into our homes until things subsided some time in the early evening. Time for a spot of gardening.
Was able however, to watch both Women's Rugby World Cup semi finals and what great games they both were. England won by 7 points over Canada who came so very close to upsetting the top ranked team, and New Zealand got out of jail when the French team missed what would normally have been a 'gimme' of a penalty kick in the last minute of play. Perfect semi final matches. So next week, the big one.........New Zealand v England in the final. I fully expect that to be another cracker of a match.
