Bill's chimney
Very heavy rain overnight woke me up. I'm usually awake by around 4 or 4:30am, but this was earlier than that. So much for an extra hour of sleep from turning our clocks back! I have a really hard time falling back asleep once I'm awake.
It's rained off and on all day with a couple of sunny breaks. I took advantage of a break in the rain and had a walk up to Bill's place to make sure everything was okay then walked down the road. We thought that Bill would be discharged yesterday, but his sister called to say that he wouldn't be and was hoping to get home today. Late afternoon, and we haven't heard. If he is discharged, it means that they'll likely be taking a late ferry and getting home in the dark, but I'm sure he'll be so happy to get home no matter the time of day.
Kalyn and team won last night in 5 sets, 22-25, 25-11, 25-14, 20-25, 15-10.
'"The win is the Red Leafs' fifth in their last six games, as SFU is closing the GNAC calendar on a torrid run." (from the SFU website)
It was Seniors' Night, and there's only one graduating senior this year. Miriam is from Finland, and usually on Seniors' Night, family members walk the seniors into the gym one by one to be honoured individually. Unfortunately Miriam's parents couldn't come all the way over, so Kalyn and the two other players who'll be seniors next season walked her in. It was really cool to see that! What was really fantastic was that Miriam played all 5 sets because the other middle who usually starts is still out with a concussion. Miriam played great and finished with 2 kills and a game high 7 block assists - and she had a fantastic block to clinch the match! Makes me wonder why we so rarely saw her on the court these past few years. What a huge cheer she got from the crowd and her teammates, so awesome!
Two more games next week and there's still an outside chance that the team might make the regional playoffs if they win both and depending on how other teams do next week as well.
Sunday Soup: French onion, cooking in the crockpot and smelling delicious. Decided to dig it out of the pantry. Will be digging out the breadmaker soon! I made toasted cheese in the toaster oven for lunch - worked great!
