The Lone Heron

I encountered just this one Great Blue Heron (Ardea herodias) while walking on the boardwalk in Crosswinds Marsh. This visit was notable for what I did not see. There were no songbirds around, and all of the ducks and white egrets were gone. My walk in the woods was very quiet except for the crunching of the fallen leaves beneath my feet, and the call of a single crow in the distance.
