A stopper with history
Another saffron post I'm afraid, but I've been in an exam meeting almost the hours of daylight. In one of the breaks I was looking for something to use to store the saffron that I have harvested so far. There isn't a huge amount, so I was looking for something small and remembered these little bottles. They are about 7 cm high with ground glass stoppers and I have 6 of them.
My much loved and missed father-in-law was a GP and when he retired, he cleared out a lot of things including his old obstetrics bag from the 1950s when GPs would be called in to help midwives with difficult deliveries. It had various implements that I don't think are used any more, but it also had these little bottles that I was allowed to have. I'm not sure what they contained when the bag was in use, but I decided one of them would be perfect for the saffron.
It will be a while before I need to use the second one. :-)
