Vertical Ripples

The serious rain arrived last night and it's been raining steadily since...light rain punctuated by serious cloudbursts...usually just as we reach the bottom of the driveway. I see that there are a still a few small lemons on the table outside. I don't think they will be getting any riper....

It is election day today and my only comment on that is that we may not be perfect, but I'm still grateful to be living in California where abortion is legal and safe, voting is encouraged and safe for everyone, and there is at least some gun control in place. I do feel for Nancy Pelosi and her husband who was attacked with a hammer in his own home by a right wing extremist who was looking for Nancy. The polarization of politics in this country has created paralysis, not a better life, a more comfortable life and in some states disenfranchisement amounting to denial of basic civil rights to minorities.

I can remember when party conventions meant something, election
night was exciting, and we would gather with family and friends to watch the returns. Now I just shudder at the thought of watching anything but a good movie on Netflix. I already know how most things will turn out in California and I don't think I want to know about some of the places that are too close to call...

Predicting the end of Democracy seems a bit dire, but I do think it is being put to the test by a lot of politicians who just don't care what anybody thinks and would not hesitate to call foul and initiate wild lies if they don't win...
