Riverfront fig

This big old fig tree grows by the banks of the Richmond River in the Ballina town centre. It may be a Moreton Bay Fig (Ficus macrophylla) which is a local species. They can grow to 50 m or more in height, and commonly have spreading roots that extend above ground level. In the background, to the right of the tree, is the town war memorial.
