Mars...

..not the bar, the planet. Reasonably steady atmospheric conditions for a while let me get some decent data.
Mars is approaching its closest position to Earth in a couple of years on December 1st although it will still be quite a long haul flight away.
Back in the day the darker markings on the surface were interpreted as vegetation. Subsequent fly-by's, orbiters and landers have revealed in minute detail a dry, barren and cratered wasteland. It seems clear that in the past Mars was a water world and hopes remain of finding signs of past life.
