All Greatness Stands Firm in The Storm

This is the enscription on the, now disused, bridge columns on the Clyde.

I believe the columns were the originals for the railway bridge which leads out of Central Station, towards the South of Glasgow and beyond.

The lettering isn't that clear, but it appears on the two remaining pillars, although in slightly different positions.

This is a shot of the Southern column. The Northern column (about 150 yards away) has the English enscription above the foreign translation.

This shot shows the English version at the bottom, of a larger foreign language version.

The origin of the statement eludes me, although I've Googled it.

Any info?
