Canal recce
It seemed like a reasonable day so I spontaneously decided to do the risk assessment for my next canal walk from Kirkintilloch back to Maryhill Locks. It stayed dry most of the day but there was a very chilly wind and I could have done with a hat. I hadn’t known about the Cadder Pit Disaster, 22 miners lost their lives in a fire in 1913, they all lived in Mavis Valley a former village on the north bank of the Forth and Clyde Canal near Bishobriggs. Annoyingly I couldn’t find the memorial which I later discovered is alongside the Stables Community Hub in Lambhill.
There is a heron, a swan and a couple of moorhen in the blip at even intervals.
Cheery phone calls from both boys who mistakenly thought it was my birthday, one even sent a card with a lone puffin. Full marks for effort.
