An Old Pilgrim's Progress
I bought this book (Pilgrim's Progress with copious notes by the Rev. Robert Maguire, M.A. ) yesterday for 50p. It is soiled, scuffed, stained, spotted & annotated, and the back cover has detached itself. The title fell off the spine at the till. The inscription reads, "To Willie On his Sixth Birthday.- 25th April 1867."
The extras depict a couple of the illustrations. In the first, Pliable chooses to accompany Christian whilst Obstinate returns to the City of Destruction. Pliable & Christian didn't look where they were going and fell into the Slough of Despond. Pliable extricates himself and goes back to the City of Destruction. On balance, maybe Obstinate got it more right.
