Veterans Day
It was a busy morning, first the fire alarm engineer came to check on that sensor that had water pouring through it the other night, and then the plumber came to look at the leak - thankfully Gavin was working from home today so he could talk to the plumber about the problem. We think it is coming from the bathroom upstairs which is the en-suite bathroom to the guest room and is never used, but when the plumber was working on the hot water the other day the hot taps had to run. Anyway it looks like it will be a massive job involving taking all the tiles off the walls and floor to find the leak so we will have to claim on our 10 year new build insurance policy (the house is only 6 years old) - we probably won't find the same tiles to replace them so its going to be a stressful job I think. There is another leak in one of the bedrooms too but we think that is coming from the roof. We have had leaks in every house we have ever had (including in Switzerland), no matter how old or new it is, and this house is very well built so it shows it can happen anywhere. All just very annoying and unnecessary stressful having to deal with it.
When I went grocery shopping I saw there was a service taking place around the war memorial on the village green. We are going to a Remembrance Sunday service at the school on Sunday but it seems some services were also held today.
After lunch Gavin and I had another private duo pilates session. Today the instructor ran the session at the quicker pace of a group class to see if we could keep up - we could and so we are now ready to join a class. Classes only have 8 people in them so it is not like it is a huge class - the studio is large but so are the reformer machines so 8 is the maximum number of reformer machines that can fit in there. My legs were wobbling after today's session (and I do weights and have done so for decades now, its just that pilates tests muscles that I don't usually use)
I watched the first two episodes of The Crown last night. It is not nearly as enjoyable as the first few series, which I enjoyed as each episode usually covered interesting history taking place during the queen's reign. This new series so far is more about the family and their squabbles - the acting is very good but each character is annoying - Diana is too flirty and a bit pathetic, Dominic West is far too handsome to be cast as Charles, Imelda Staunton looks nothing like the queen other than having the same coloured hair, its all a bit sensationalist Netflix rather than the interesting social history drama of the first few series. Yet I will continue to watch all of it!
