Sigel's Final Position - NEW History
The first major Missouri Civil War battle occurred at Wilson's Creek on August 10th 1861, Col. Franz Sigel's final position for his battery of cannons was here on this hill. A new piece of American history for us was learning that some of the early uniforms worn by the Union troops were grey.
So as the Confederates advanced up the hill, the Union troops mistook them for reinforcements. A critical error as the Confederates came face to face with the Union troops before realizing the mistake. This turned the battle's tide in favor of the Confederates.
