Vine Weevil Grubs
A heavy duty gardening day which included fallen leaf clearance, planting 80 Tulip bulbs and repotting Polyanthus which is where I discovered these little grubs. A sure signs are floppy leaves, many turning brown and a generally a plant in poor condition .It is the grubs feeding on the base of stem which causes the damage and fortunately they are easy to see and deal with when the pots are turned out. Will put the pot of grubs on the bird feeder as the Robins particularly love them. The same variety of plants growing in garden soil seem more resistant to them, but the affected plants will recover once theses pests are removed.
