Shale Creek of the Clearwater

Sometimes people don't believe that we actively removed large wood from streams but out on the Olympic Peninsula where this was done until the early 90's the evidence is still there. Here's an 8ft dia tree that fell across this small stream that was subsequently bucked and removed with the stump only remaining. Even with only the stump the stream can't move this piece of wood and it has created great pool habitat. Just imagine what similar streams looked liked when old growth forests were adjacent to their banks and fell into the stream over thousands of years...
