Red-throated Diver #95, Eider #96
Today we had a wonderful day in Amble. Well, when I say day, I really mean few hours, as by the time we were up and out it was well after 10am!
It was lovely and sunny again and when we arrived we headed for the first of three bird inspired sculptures on a trail that will eventually have 12 sculptures called the Bord Waalk (Bird walk). The three we saw today were the Tern Wings, Sphere and Bird Song, which is a representation of the song of the Roseate Tern in radio waves apparently. I loved them all.
Then we headed to the harbour where they were setting up for some sort of a light show this evening over by the beach huts. After we’d had lunch at the excellent Fish Shack, it looked completely different along the pier with lots of colourful flags. In the harbour, I was delighted to be able to add Red-throated diver to my annual and life tally having never seen one before. There were also a couple of gorgeous Eider ducks.
Tomorrow we are going to try for the sunrise as we are heading out to Holy Island quite early because of the tides. We missed the sunset by a few minutes this afternoon at Beadnell as we got stuck behind a tractor for ages, which was very annoying.
